Acoustic pre-completion testing (PCT) is a means of demonstrating acoustic insulation compliance with Part E of the Building Regulations for all residential as well as certain commercial developments. Sound insulation is the property of a wall or a floor to resist the passage of noise.
Where there is a requirement under Part E to establish the acoustic performance of a building acoustic testing can be undertaken. The only exceptions to this are detached houses and those buildings constructed using Robust Details.
Acoustic Testing is required on 10% of (each construction type) of all new residential properties. Acoustic testing through walls requires an airborne test only. Testing through floors requires both an airborne and an impact test. This means that houses require an airborne test only and a flat requires both.
